During the last weekend of September, the city of Poperinge will be transformed into a Romain village.
A grand, fun event, organized by the ‘De StreSSkikkerS’ running club from Elverdinge.
Saturday 29 September

On Saturday, September 29, our spaghetti party will take place in the Maeke Blyde in Poperinge from 19:00. We invite you all to enjoy a delicious spaghetti and a social gathering with friends. You will also be able to taste the local beers. Later in the evening, the DJ will provide a dance music that you cannot resist and immediately make the dance floor unsafe. For a well-filled plate of spaghetti you pay € 12, kids under 12 years € 9. You can register here

Sunday 30 September
Flemish Beer Run

A unique concept, never seen before in Belgium: a fun run through the Flemish fields, centred around the theme of the ‘Middle Ages’. As the name suggests, beer will play a key role in this event and every participant is encouraged – no obligation – to dress in Romain costumes. To reward them for their efforts, we’re launching a dress-up competition: the runner with the most impressive costume wins his/her weight in beer. More than that, (s)he’ll have the chance to nominate 1 person to win the same prize. All along the route, the participants will encounter stands where they can savour local beers and other appetizers, while enjoying medieval music. RUN, TASTE and FUN will be the three keywords to describe this unique event. The course? Participants can choose from two formulas. If running the 21 km, the run will take you along Poperinge’s beautiful fields to Watou and then back to Poperinge, via the Helleketelbos. Along the way, you will encounter 5 different tasting stops. Prefer a shorter run? Or you do the 10.5km race stopping at the St Bernardus brewery in Watou. Participants will be transported to the starting point.

Sunday 30 September
Breughel dinner

After the Flemish Beer Run, runners, supporters and anyone else are invited to enjoy a Breughel dinner in the Maeke Blyde, Doornstraat 43 in Poperinge (see ‘Register’). The delicious Breughel meal will be available a volonté, accompanied by beer and water – like they drunk in the Middle Ages – at a very affordable price.
